Which roads, neighborhoods will be impacted Sunday and Monday by Oregon22 marathons?

The events of the 2022 World Athletics Championships might be about to impact your everyday travel plans.

With tens of thousands of people coming to Eugene-Springfield to attend and participate in the track and field events, some facilities and roads will be closed. Oregon22 marathons on the mornings of Sunday and Monday will affect traffic and road access.

What follows will help you navigate the area during the world championships events.

Road event impacts

Car and bike traffic, as well as access to neighborhoods, will be impacted by Oregon22 road events.

The men's marathon takes place from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday and the women's marathon takes place from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday. Event operational hours on both days are 4 a.m. to 10 a.m., which may impact residents and commuters.

The marathon route will be closed to vehicles during operational hours.

The marathon loop begins on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard near Autzen Stadium. From there, it moves onto Day Island Road within Alton Baker Park, following alongside Pre’s Trail. The course will cross over the Willamette River and then move into Springfield. Competitors will traverse Main Street before running along West D St. and Rainbow Drive. on their way back to the finish line at Autzen Stadium.

Residents whose driveways or cul-de-sacs are directly on the marathon route will have no vehicular access in or out during the operational hours. Plan ahead by moving vehicles the night before to a nearby street off the race route.

Traffic delays should be expected for all nearby residents and businesses during event operational hours.

Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be closed between both intersections of Leo Harris Parkway until July 27. Through traffic on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be detoured onto Leo Harris Parkway.

Barricades will mark street closures at various points around the racecourse. "No parking" signs will be posted in areas where parking is not permitted. Vehicles in "no parking" areas may be towed.

Alton Baker Park and Day Island Road will be temporarily closed to all users 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday and Monday for the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 marathon races for the safety of the racers.

This includes the bike path and park amenities, such as the dog park, community gardens and disc golf course.

Alternate routes for affected streets

What follows is information on navigating areas which will be affected by Oregon22 marathons on Sunday and Monday morning.

IN EUGENE

  • West of Interstate 5 in the Chevy Chase neighborhood: Use Lindley Lane/Garden Way to enter or exit the neighborhood. There will be a controlled crossing across Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Lindley Lane/Garden Way. Chevy Chase Street will be closed at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

  • Alton Baker Park: Day Island Road will be closed to bike and pedestrian use until 10 a.m. on both marathon days.

IN SPRINGFIELD

  • North of Centennial Boulevard and East of I-5: Use Fairview to travel east to Prescott Lane and Centennial Boulevard. Westbound Centennial Boulevard will be closed at Prescott Lane.

  • South of Centennial Boulevard and west of Rainbow Drive: Police will have a controlled crossing at Aspen Street. Cross Centennial Boulevard, go north to Fairview Drive, east to Prescott Lane, exit at Prescott Lane and Centennial Boulevard eastbound to avoid the course closure. Westbound Centennial Boulevard will be closed at Prescott Lane. West D Street will be closed.

  • Marilyn Court at Rainbow Drive: Residents on the cul-de-sac of Marilyn Court should park east of Rainbow Drive if they will need to get vehicles out on marathon mornings. Rainbow Drive will be closed.

  • Raintree Way west of Rainbow Drive: Residents in the cul-de-sac on Raintree Way west of Rainbow Drive should plan to park their cars to the east of Rainbow Drive if they need access during marathon mornings. Rainbow Drive will be closed.

  • Jannette Court: Residents on the cul-de-sac Jannette Court should plan to park East of Rainbow Drive if they will need to leave during marathon mornings. Rainbow Drive will be closed.

  • South of Centennial Boulevard between Rainbow Drive and Kelly Butte: Residents should take Prescott Lane north and go east on Centennial Boulevard. Westbound Centennial Boulevard will be closed at Prescott Lane. West D Street will be closed.

  • South of Centennial Boulevard and east of Kelly Butte: Go East or North to exit course area. Westbound Centennial Boulevard will be closed at Prescott Lane. West D Street will be closed.

  • West D Street: Residents along West D Street, between Walnut Place and Pioneer Parkway East, should plan to park cars to the north and utilize either Aspen Street or Prescott Lane to exit the course area. Rainbow Drive will be closed. No driveway access will be possible during the event.

  • Rainbow Drive: For residents whose driveway is on Rainbow Drive, plan to park your vehicle on Janus Street or Hamilton Street if you need access to your vehicle during event operational hours. Rainbow Drive will be closed. No driveway access will be possible during the event.

  • Between Pioneer Parkway East and Pioneer Parkway West - South of West D Street: Residents should plan to park vehicles east of Pioneer Parkway East for faster egress on marathon mornings. Vehicles needing to move during the event must cross Pioneer Parkway East at controlled crossings.

  • West of Pioneer Parkway west and south of D Street: Residents should go Northbound on Mill Street to cross West D Street to exit the course area. Pioneer Parkway east and west will be closed south of West D Street. Main Street will be closed.

  • South of Downtown Springfield: Residents south of South A Street should take South B Street east to 5th Street North to exit the course area.

  • Glenwood Area: Glenwood area residents should utilize detours on 17th Avenue and Glenwood Boulevard for access to the west and south. Eastbound Franklin Boulevard and the bridge into downtown Springfield will be closed.
