No serious injuries had been reported due to the wrecks as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Gastonia Police had a simple message: "Please continue staying home if you can."

In a 16-hour time period, Gastonia Police responded to almost 50 calls related to either wrecks or stranded vehicles, the department reported around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing until around noon in Gaston County. Skies are sunny, but the high Saturday will just hit 40 degrees so some melting will occur.

Overnight temperatures will dip into the low 20s, which could make getting out early Sunday a bit more dangerous than usual. Sunday will again feature sunny skies and temperatures hitting 50 so expect an even bigger thaw before Monday comes.
