Roanoke man pleads guilty to Hunt Ave Shooting in January 2023

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The City of Roanoke Commonwealth’s Attorney has announced that a man has been convicted to First-Degree Murder in connection to a shooting that occurred on Hunt Ave NW on Jan. 25, 2023.

On Jan. 31. 2024, Christopher Arias pleaded guilty to First Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of Murder in a Circuit Court Judge.

Around 8 p.m. on Jan. 25. 2023, Roanoke Police were notified of a person with a gunshot wound on the 700 block of Hunt Avenue NW. When officers got to the scene, they found a man unresponsive with a gunshot wound outside of the home. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as Christopher Sinram, the stepfather of Arias. The investigation showed that Sinram was involved in an argument with Arias’ mother, leading to Arias shooting him multiple times.

After an interview, police say Arias admitted to the shooting. He was later indicted on Feb. 6, 2023. A sentencing hearing has been set for May 7 in the Roanoke City Circuit Court.
