Rob Lowe's Generic 'NFL' Hat Inspired These Hilarious Memes
Rob Lowe, a big Indianapolis Colts fan, attended this past weekend's NFC Championship Game between the 49ers and the Packers.
Rather than choose a team, he wore a hat that just repped the NFL.
There were memes, and there were many of them.
Like his character on Parks and Recreation, Rob Lowe is a pretty big Indianapolis Colts fan. Not only is Lowe a fan, but he's friends with Colts owner Jim Irsay, and at one point even tried breaking news on his Twitter account about former Colts QB Peyton Manning. Lowe made an appearance at the NFC Championship Game this weekend, but unfortunately for him, his Colts weren't playing—which meant Lowe had to pick a side. Except he didn't. Instead of choosing to support the San Francisco 49ers or the Green Bay Packers, Lowe instead decided to rock a hat that just repped the NFL. Just the logo. That's it. And the internet noticed, and we got a lot of very funny memes as a result.
Not only is Lowe a big NFL fan, but as the game was broadcast on FOX, he was there for work, too—he's leading the network's new 9-1-1 spinoff, 9-1-1- Lone Star. Ahead of that show's debut, he took to his own Instagram in an attempt to save face, or at least attempt to explain what exactly was going on with his hat. As one would expect, he went to the Parks and Recreation well. "I LITERALLY love football! And teams. Every one of them! They are all wonderful! Go teams!” -Chris Traeger" he wrote, quoting the character he played on 77 episodes of Parks and Rec.
"You’re not getting out of this that easily, my friend," his son, Johnny Lowe, commented on his post. The memes tend to show that Johnny is correct in this case.

Some chose to read the hat as a sign of just pure joy of the game of football. Rob Lowe just wants fun for all involved.

Rob Lowe wearing an NFL hat in the crowd. Not a team. Just the NFL logo. Big fan of the league overall. Great stuff.

A generic 'NFL' hat kind of invokes Steve Buscemi's 'Music Band' T-shirt from his famous 'Fellow Kids' apperance on 30 Rock.

When Rob Lowe goes to a concert instead of getting a souvenir band t-shirt he just gets a shirt that says “music” pic.twitter.com/PeEINJRiHs

People questioned the hat and its very existence.
A LIDS EMPLOYEE, ONE WEEK AGO: Are you sure, sir? No one's ever bought that one before. It's kinda just for display.
