Would-be robber leaves Sioux Falls store empty handed early Friday morning, police say

Police are looking for the suspect in failed-robbery attempt that took place in central Sioux Falls early Friday morning.

Police responded to a call around 1:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of W. 12th Street for a robbery call when they learned a man described as having blue or green eyes, wearing a ski mask, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and grey sweatshirt used a handgun to demand money from a store clerk, according to Sgt. Sean Kooistra.

However, Kooistra said the would-be robber left the store empty handed and fled the scene on foot after the clerk refused.

"Right now we don't have that individual identified, but we are currently actively investigating that," he said, adding that it is not advised for someone to refuse demands of armed robbers. "In this particular situation the clerk decided to do that."

It's unknown if the clerk was armed at the time of the incident.
