Robbers use silver vehicles overnight in attempt carjacking, and at least 3 armed robberies, police say

Armed robbers used a silver-colored vehicle overnight during an attempt carjacking and at least three armed crimes throughout the city, Chicago police said.

While police did not say the robberies were related, the culprits used a silver sedan or silver SUV during the crimes.

The latest incident happened around 4:40 a.m. in the first block of North Kostner Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

A 65-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were inside a vehicle when four armed males exited a silver SUV and approached them demanding their vehicle. The man, a conceal carry license holder, pulled out his gun and fired shots at the robbers but missed. One of the robbers returned fire, hitting the woman in the chest, and grazing the man in his right calf. The robbers got back into the SUV and fled the scene, police said.

Both victims were taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park where they were listed in good condition, police said.

Around 4:25 a.m., a man was walking in the 3500 block of West Dickens Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood when he was approached by four armed robbers who demanded his belongings. The man complied but one of the robbers struck him to the head. The culprits fled the scene in a silver sedan. The victim refused medical help at the scene, police said.

About 4 a.m., a man was walking in the 2200 block of North Springfield Avenue when he was approached by three armed robbers who demanded his property. The man complied but one of the robbers hit him in the head. The culprits fled the scene in a silver sedan, and the victim refused medical help, police said.

Around 3:15 a.m., a man was using an ATM drive-thru in the 2100 block of South Damen Avenue when he was approached by four armed robbers who demanded his belongings. The man complied but one of the culprits hit him in the head before they all fled in a silver sedan, police said.

No one was in custody for the violent robberies, and detectives were investigating.
