Robbery preceded East Austin car show shooting, affidavit says; one man arrested

Police have arrested a man and charged him with murder in connection with the killing of a person during an East Austin car show earlier this month, court records show.

Austin police arrested Round Rock resident Carlos Rivera, 49, on Feb. 7 and charged him with killing Christian Loredo during a car show Feb. 3 in the parking lot of the Fiesta Mart in the 3900 block of the Interstate 35 North frontage road. Travis County Jail records show Rivera is being held on a $1 million bond.

According to KXAN, Austin police issued a search warrant this week to get Christian Loredo's phone data to try to find some of the other people believed to be involved with Rivera during the robbery and attack Feb. 3. Attempts by the American-Statesman to obtain a copy of this search warrant Thursday were unsuccessful.

Christian Loredo's cousin, Oscar Loredo, attended the event with him and told police they were waiting in a line of cars to leave the show when four people approached the car, a probable cause arrest affidavit shows.

Oscar Loredo told police he got out of the vehicle because he was worried something was about to happen. He was then struck in the face by an unknown person multiple times before being robbed, according to the affidavit.

While being robbed, Oscar Loredo looked back at his cousin's truck and saw one of the robbers fire a gun, according to the affidavit. Another witness later said this person was Rivera.

In addition to another witness stating the killer was Rivera, police said they received numerous tips indicating the person who shot and killed Christian Loredo was Rivera.
