Robbery reported at M&T Bank in Stroud Township

Police have apprehended a suspect in a reported bank robbery in Stroud Township.

At approximately 12:12 p.m. Friday, Stroud Area Regional Police responded to a bank robbery at the M&T Bank, 900 N. Ninth St., in Stroud Township.

While SARP officers were responding, they received information about the suspect's vehicle and were able to locate it along Route 611 near Pocono Commons Drive in Stroud Township. Officers pursued the vehicle along the northbound lane until the vehicle crashed on the Interstate 80 West on-ramp at interchange 302. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended.

According to police, this was an isolated incident and the public is not in any danger.

Police said they will release more information at the conclusion of the investigation.

Pennsylvania State Police confirmed they assisted the Stroud Area Regional Police Department with the incident.

It was the third bank robbery reported in the area in the past eight days.

On Tuesday, at approximately 11:48 a.m., the Fidelity Bank located at 2118 North Delaware Drive in Upper Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, was robbed.

The bank robber was described as a male, 5 feet 5 inches, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue surgical mask. He passed a note demanding money from a bank teller. After receiving the money, he fled the scene.

The Pennsylvania State Police Belfast Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the PSP Belfast Unit at 610-759-6106.

On July 7, at approximately 10:12 a.m. the Fulton Bank located at 9 Ledgewood Ave. in Netcong, New Jersey, was also robbed.

The bank robber was described as a male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and a blue surgical mask. It is reported that he entered the bank and demanded money. The suspect fled the bank with $14,000.
