Robbery reported at Walden Savings Bank branch in town of Newburgh

TOWN OF NEWBURGH - A robbery was reported at a Walden Savings Bank branch in the town of Newburgh on Saturday.

Town police said a man entered the bank at 5239 Route 9W at approximately 12:10 p.m. Saturday, went directly to a teller and passed a note that demanded money. Police did not say whether the man was armed or indicated that he was armed.

According to police, an undisclosed amount of money was given to the man and he immediately fled the bank on foot, heading north on Route 9W.

Police said the man was wearing a white or tan sweatshirt, jeans, a black medical face mask and a blue baseball cap.

Town police said they did an extensive search of the area, with the assistance of state police and their aviation unit, but did not locate him.

Police are asking members of the public to help with their investigation.

Anyone who was driving in that area of Route 9W, from the bank north to Marlboro, between 11:50 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, and has a dash cam on their vehicle is asked to call town police at 845-564-1100 and ask for Detective O'Connell or Detective Sisla.

Any businesses in that area on Route 9W with security cameras should also call town police.
