Robert Everett resigns position on Dover Board of Education
DOVER ‒ The Dover Board of Education is looking for a new member with the resignation of Robert Everett at Monday's school board meeting.
Everett resigned due to a conflict of interest between his position on the board and his new role as the director of safety and security for Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia, where he was recently hired.

"I would like to offer my sincere and utmost thanks to the voters of the Dover City School District, who elected me to this office in November of 2021, but I cannot risk my integrity nor the integrity of the Buckeye Career Center or the Dover City School District, so I must resign from my elected position," he said in a statement. "To vacate this position is completely uncharacteristic of me, but I must do what the law requires.
"I leave the Dover City Schools in great hands. We’ve made some progress over the past year and a half, adding a school resource officer, making some needed changes and adding new staff members and administrators. I wish my fellow board of education members the best of luck in the future, Superintendent Karie McCrate, the administrative team, staff members and, of course, all of the students."
Vacancy to be filled in June
The board is required to fill the vacancy at its next regular or special meeting, and the person appointed to fill the position will serve until Dec. 31. The remaining two years of the unexpired term must be filled by election in November.
After discussion about the vacancy at Monday’s meeting, the board decided to solicit letters of interest in the position and will select a new member from those candidates.
Any Dover City School District resident interested in serving the remainder of this term should send a letter or email of interest to Board of Education President Kyle Stemple at 228 W. Sixth St., Dover, Ohio 44622, or to stemplek@dovertornadoes.com. Letters of interest are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The Dover Board of Education has a special board meeting planned for 7 a.m. June 30 to approve appropriations and other necessary business at the end of the fiscal year, so by law it will be required to make the appointment at that meeting.
New high school wrestling coach
In other action at the board meeting, Gannon Petrullo was hired as the district's head wrestling coach.
Petrullo is a 2021 graduate of Kent State University and a 2017 graduate of Dover High School. He is currently a third-grade teacher at Dover East Elementary, as well as a varsity assistant girls soccer coach for the Crimson Tornadoes.
His varsity wrestling coaching experience includes the past season with the Dover grapplers, as well as time coaching at West Holmes High School. He has also served for two years as a middle school wrestling and middle school soccer coach.
As a high school wrestler for the Tornadoes, Petrullo was a two-time Ohio High School Athletic Association state qualifier and three-time East Central Ohio League champion. He remains among the top all-time wrestlers in Dover High School history with total take-downs and total wins.
