Robert Irwin Is 'Stoked' to Walk Older Sister Bindi Down the Aisle at Her Wedding

When Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late conservationist Steve Irwin announced her engagement to longtime beau Chandler Powell earlier this year, she said that she hoped her little brother, Robert, would walk her down the aisle. Now, it looks like she’s going to be getting that wish.

Robert, who graduated high school early this year in order to focus on his work at the Australia Zoo, owned by his family, spoke about his sister’s upcoming nuptials at the Time 100 Next event on Thursday evening. The 15-year-old told reporters he was “just so, so stoked” to be asked to walk Bindi down the aisle at her wedding. He added, “I was so excited and really honored for her to ask me to walk her down the aisle. I think it’s going to be a wonderful day, such a great celebration.”

Bindi announced her engagement to Powell, a wakeboarder, in July with a sweet Instagram post documenting the moment she said ‘yes’.

“On my birthday, I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life,” she wrote. “Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you & every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose & unconditional love.”

Shortly after the announcement, Bindi spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her impending wedding and shared her hopes that Robert could walk her down the aisle. “I think that for me, it’ll be really important that Robert walks me down the aisle,” she said. “I’m always so grateful that Robert is there, and he has been such a big part of my life and he’s always stepped up and been the one to give me a hug when I need it and encourage me forward in life. So he will definitely be the one to walk me down the aisle when the time comes, and I think that will make it really special. And I think that’s what dad would have wanted as well.”

In addition to having her brother walk her down the aisle, Bindi plans to honor her late father with a special ceremony at the wedding, which according to People, will be held at the Australia Zoo.
