NAME – David Hammers

SCHOOL – Alliance Middle School

RESIDENCE – Strongsville

HIGH SCHOOL ALMA MATER – Strongsville High School

COLLEGE – Baldwin Wallace

FAMILY – I have family throughout Northern Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU TEACH? – I teach a Career Tech STEM class for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students.

WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? – Getting the students to be creative.

WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR JOB? – Getting the students to be creative. Yes, it is the same as the best part. Not every person wants to be creative, many people often just want to choose the easy way to do something. Helping them to get past easy, and showing them how good something can be with effort and creativity is very important and rewarding to me.

WHAT SECRET TO SUCCESS WOULD YOU SHARE WITH STUDENTS? – When doing anything in life, it doesn't matter what, it always pays off to not hold back and do the best that you can. Don't worry about what others think, and don't be afraid of trying something and failing. By always doing your best, it will help you to learn and be successful.

IS TEACHING KIDS THE SAME TODAY AS WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED? – No, the lives of students today are online a lot more than they were when I started. So much of what they do is now on social media, that it is very different. One of our goals now is to help them understand how to be responsible online, how to use it and understand it correctly, and to help them to become good online citizens.

YOUR STUDENTS WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW … – … How much I love going to Walt Disney World. Of course, maybe it's not that surprising after all.

WHAT IS YOUR HIDDEN TALENT? – Probably my creativity, and my willingness to try new things.

IF YOU WEREN’T A TEACHER, YOU’D BE … – Honestly, I would have loved to have been an Imagineer for the Walt Disney Company and help to design theme parks.

AFTER A LONG DAY AT WORK, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO RELAX? – I love to watch movies, and go to live theater at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland.
