In new cover art by Ricardo Lopez Ortiz for issue #6 of Tim Drake: Robin, we finally get to see Robin kissing his current comics boyfriend Bernard — and it’s a beautiful sight to see.
On the cover, Tim Drake is wearing his Robin costume while holding Bernard close and kissing him passionately as his cape billows around them in the Gotham City night. It’s instantly reminiscent of countless scenes we’ve seen of Batman making out with Catwoman (or any number of other women) as his cape swirls around them.
The issue is written by Meghan Fitzmartin and features cover and interior art by Ricardo Lopez Ortiz.
According to the solicitation from DC, the issue focuses on Robin coming “face-to-voice with the villain who’s been taunting Tim by using his metahuman powers to create ghostly animals. When this Moriarty’s identity is revealed, all hell breaks loose in the marina. Can Tim keep things afloat, while simultaneously dealing with his relationship with Bernard?”
Tim Drake first came out as bisexual in the summer of 2021 in an issue of Batman: Urban Legends. In the comic, Tim is hanging out with a male friend, Bernard, when the villainous Chaos Monster kidnaps Bernard, forcing Robin to come save him.
While Bernard is unaware that Robin is his close friend Tim, he confesses to his rescuer that he has a crush on the boy he was hanging out with before he got kidnapped, and had planned on asking him out on a date.
Out of costume, Tim paid Bernard a visit. “I’m really glad you got home okay. I was relieved,” he told his friend. “And I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about that night, and I – I don’t know what it meant to me. Not yet. But I’d like to figure it out.”
“I was hoping you would,” Bernard replied. “Tim Drake… do you want to go on a date with me?”
“Yeah,” Robin said. “Yeah, I think I want that.”
While their first kiss has been a while coming, this beautiful cover is definitely worth the wait. Tim Drake: Robin #6 comes out in comic book shops on February 28, 2023.
