After five seasons as head coach, Satellite High's Ted Kimmey has stepped down from the school's top football position, and offensive coordinator Knox Robinson will follow him in the role.

In an announcement on Twitter, a note from Kimmey referenced a need to focus on his family.

"I believe in leaving things better than you found them, and I have no doubts that we have done that here," he said.

Last season, the Scorpions won a school-record 10 games and earned their first FHSAA regional playoff win since 1987. In fact, Satellite won a school-record two playoff games, reaching the 2021 regional final at the Class 5A level.

After the regional semifinal win over Bishop Moore, Kimmey called the team "officially the greatest football team in this school's history."

Robinson, the son of a football coach, graduated from LaGrange (Ga.) College in 2013 and has been in coaching since. He coached three years in Georgia high school football, a year back at his alma mater and then three years at Lake Weir in Ocala, the last two as head coach.

At Lake Weir, Robinson's 2018 team went 8-4. The Hurricanes made the playoffs for the first time since 2009, and they recorded their first FHSAA regional win ever.

"My goal is to continue all the good things we're doing and build upon it," Robinson said Wednesday. "I want to lead a player-driven program. We've got to win on great culture."

The new coach said the program will focus on "four pillars:" toughness, effort, attitude and mentality.

Kimmey became the third head coach to leave the position in Brevard County since the 2021 season. Melbourne Central Catholic and Viera are also looking for head coaches.

Prior to serving as head coach at Satellite, Kimmey spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator. An offensive lineman as a player, he was a 2008 graduate of West Point, and during his service, he coached youth and semi-pro football in Germany.
