Rocco's Italian Sausage coming to Home Depots in Bucks County. Where to find this Philly favorite

If you pull up to a Home Depot and are hit with the scent of grilled onions and peppers, chances are you’ve found one of the eight Home Depot stores with a Rocco’s Italian Sausages & Cheese Steaks shop out front.

Up until recently, Rocco’s could only be found at stores in Philadelphia and Queens, New York. But with its latest opening in Souderton this month, Rocco’s finally made its way into Bucks County.

And if that’s not close enough for you, hang tight, more are on the way.

What is Rocco’s Italian Sausages & Cheese Steaks?

Open seven days a week, Rocco’s attracts contractors, Home Depot employees and everyday do-it-yourselfers to its 400-square-foot building who need a quick, but filling meal in the middle of their busy day.

How did Rocco’s get its start?

The shop was originally founded by Richard “Rocco” Guardino when he opened the first Rocco’s in Queens at a Home Depot in Long Island City in 2000 before adding a second location in College Point.

Rocco’s makes its mark in Philadelphia

Rocco’s found its way to Philadelphia in 2006 starting with two shops on Columbus Boulevard and Castor Avenue, thanks to a partnership with Guardino's former colleague, Dan Winter, Sr.

Its popularity quickly took off with the business picking up speed a couple years ago as Winter and his two sons, Anthony and Dan, Jr. — who both grew up helping out and eventually working at the shop — started offering licensing agreements to others they’ve entrusted to carry out the brand.

Currently, Rocco’s can be found at all five Philadelphia Home Depots, and just last week they’ve expanded into the suburbs.

The newest Rocco’s opened last week outside the Hilltown Home Depot, under the ownership of local husband-and-wife team, Joanna and Damian Meisner. They look forward to running their shop as a family.

"Our kids call it 'our business' because it's something we're building together. We're working as a team, and that's what we want our kids to grow up knowing," Joanna Meisner said.

More locations are on the way, according to Dan Winter, Jr., director of operations. Construction will begin soon on a shop outside the Oxford Valley Home Depot store in Fairless Hills, with a targeted opening in early May.

“Bucks County has been great, and we’d definitely like to do some more expansions there.” Winter said. "We're just taking it one at a time, but so far so good."

What on the menu at Rocco's?

The shop serves a variety of Italian sausage, steak, chicken and portobella mushroom sandwiches on a fresh Italian long roll, all cooked to order. Breakfast sandwiches are also available until 10:30 a.m.

For such small shop, the number of choices is impressive, but here are few standouts:

  • Rocco’s Special. The perfect sandwich for those who can’t decide, it comes with both sausage and steak are served together on one roll.

  • The Gavone. A breakfast sandwich piled high with steak, bacon, eggs, potatoes, onions and peppers topped with a shot of their homemade hot sauce.

  • Portobella Parmagiana. One of their popular vegetarian options served on a long roll with your choice of toppings.
