New Rochelle police charge Long Island man in robberies, burglary, stabbing

NEW ROCHELLE - City police charged a Long Island man for what they described as a one-man crime spree that included two robberies, a burglary and a stabbing.

New Rochelle police said just before 3:45 p.m. Thursday they got a report that a woman was stabbed and beaten and was now inside a convenience store at Main Street and Webster Avenue.

While officers were responding to that scene, police received a call of a strong-arm robbery a short distance away on Woodland Avenue just off Main Street. A pedestrian was robbed of cash, police said.

Responding police officers saw the suspect, Michael Bagley, 32, of Coram in Suffolk County, fleeing the area and a foot chase began through backyards in the Residence Park neighborhood on the south side of New Rochelle.

While attempting to evade police, Bagley allegedly broke into a home on Laurel Place that was occupied by a woman and her two young children. Police said the woman was able to keep him calm while covertly messaging a neighbor to call police, which led to his capture by detectives who were canvassing the neighborhood.

Bagley tried to flee but was tasered and placed under arrest without further use of force.

Police said the woman who was stabbed and beaten on Main Street was taken to a local hospital, where she was listed in serious but stable condition.

Bagley was charged with first- and third-degree robbery, second-degree assault, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, all felonies.

Court information and the name of his attorney were not immediately available.
