Second Annual ‘Run Through History’

PORTSMOUTH — Strawbery Banke is holding the second annual “Run Through History” half-kilometer event on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. Runners and walkers of all abilities experience 260 years of architectural heritage in one loop of the Museum’s historic campus. Registration is $20 per person and benefits the Museum’s “History Within Reach” program, covering school-trip admission and transportation costs for economically underserved K-12 schools.

Half-k participants are encouraged to wear historical costumes and bring a watch for self-timing. The loop begins near the circa 1796 Captain Walsh House and winds through the Museum’s historical pathways past historic houses and gardens. DJ Skooch spins musical favorites as runners and walkers proceed through and return from the route. All participants receive a commemorative event sticker and swag bag.

The “History Within Reach” scholarship program provides experiential-learning workshops to economically underserved K-12 schools in N.H., Maine, and Mass. These interactive learning experiences, which meet state and national curriculum standards, are offered at no cost to Title 1 schools and those recovering from financial hardship in the wake of the pandemic.

Strawbery Banke has partnered with Portsmouth restaurants for pre-race carb and caffeine boosts as well as post-race recovery. Enjoy a pre-race carb-loading pasta specials at Dwyer's Pub, 96 Bridge St., and a pre-race caffeine boost at Cup of Joe Cafe & Bar, 31 Market St. Refuel after the race with post-race Gatorade recovery cocktails at Tj's of Portsmouth, 54 Daniel St., and a post-race carb reload at Loaded Question Brewery, 909 Islington St., Suite #12.
