Rock-climbing gym announces plans to expand to Hampton

Here’s some news that rocks: A popular rock-climbing gym that has locations in Norfolk and Virginia Beach is expanding to the Peninsula.

Latitude Climbing + Fitness has announced on Facebook that it plans to open at a new location in early 2023 in Peninsula Town Center in Hampton.

The first Latitude location opened about four years ago, near downtown Norfolk and Ghent. According to Virginian-Pilot archives, the owners decided to expand to Virginia Beach in late 2020 after seeing how popular the Norfolk location became.

The Hampton spot will feature a climbing wall that is 48 feet tall. The climbing area will be about 15,000 square feet, according to the Facebook post. The building will have two floors of climbing walls and offers climbing with ropes as well as bouldering — a form of climbing without using ropes or harnesses.

Like Latitude’s other two locations, the Hampton facility will also offer yoga, fitness classes and youth climbing teams.

Latitude welcomes beginners and offers boulders for climbers of all different skill levels, according to its website. The gym is also open to children of all ages with adult supervision.

The rock-climbing gym offers climbers the option of day passes or memberships. Users with memberships are able to use any of the Latitude gyms in the region.
