Rock Hill teachers surprised with classroom makeovers for teacher appreciation week

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week, and three teachers in Rock Hill are getting a special surprise, according to our partners at CN2 News.

The three teachers chosen each got a classroom makeover with help from the Rock Hill School District and a new program called Inspiring Spaces. Over 120 were nominated, including Carly Varnadore, a kindergarten teacher at Mount Gallant Elementary School, and CN2 was there when she was surprised.

Dr. Tommy Schmolze, Superintendent of the Rock Hill School District, told CN2 about the importance of expressing gratitude to teachers.

“Teacher appreciation is one thing we say educators and everyone that touches the life of a child is so important,” Schmolze said. “What we went through with COVID was life-changing with education, and to cast out a little more love to make them feel appreciated, I think whatever we can do, we will do.”

The winning teachers were given almost no restrictions on renovating their classrooms. The makeovers will be done over the summer, and the new room will be unveiled during the first week of school in the fall, CN2 reports.
