Rock Island Public Library hosts Community Comforts Drive

The Rock Island Public Library invites you to support others in our community by participating in its Community Comforts Drive.

Access to non-food personal care, cleaning supplies, hygiene items and basic household supplies isn’t always easy or affordable for some in our community. The library is taking donations of household supplies and personal care items during the month of February for the Heart of Hope Outreach Center and the Rocky Resource Room at Rock Island High School.

“Basically, it’s anything you’d buy for your own home,” Karrah Kuykendall, Rock Island Public Library Reference & Adult Services Director said. “We collected nearly 500 items last year, and that generosity brought a little comfort to people struggling with basic needs. We’re always impressed by our community’s caring and capacity to help others.”

Examples of items for the drive include the following:

  • Hair products, shampoo, conditioner

  • Body wash

  • Deodorant/antiperspirants

  • Lotion

  • Razors

  • Hygiene Products

  • New Undergarments/socks

  • Laundry soap

  • Household cleaning products

  • Paper products

  • Dental care

  • Sanitizer wipes

Bright pink donation boxes will be available until March 1 at the Rock Island Downtown Library ( located at 401 19th St.), the Rock Island Southwest Library (9010 Ridgewood Rd.), and the Watts-Midtown Branch (2715 30th St.).
