Rock, reggae and comedy on tap at the beaches for summer 2022

There continues to be more music events than you can shake a tambourine at this summer at the beach — and there is also some comedy on tap.

In Dewey Beach, The Starboard nightclub is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its summer comedy night, which falls on Tuesdays each season. At 9 p.m. Aug. 2, touring comedian Jim Florentine will headline a show that also includes a set by Mark DeMayo. The evening will be hosted by local comedienne Ashley Ruark.

The gruff-voiced Florentine, who hails from New Jersey, has a steady presence on television. He co-hosted all seven seasons of VH1Classic’s "That Metal Show," has voiced characters on Comedy Central’s "Crank Yankers," and appears regularly on FOX News programs including "The Greg Gutfeld Show."

Admission to The Starboard’s comedy night is free each week, but reservations are recommended by calling 302-227-4600.

In Ocean City, the Cowboy Coast Saloon’s Throwback Thursday concert series continues July 29 with an appearance by national hard-rock favorite Buckcherry ($25). Led by tattooed frontman Josh Todd, the California five-piece recently toured with Alice Cooper.

Elsewhere in Ocean City, the Seacrets complex will present a free rock and reggae show at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, featuring the bands Pasadena and Joint Operation. Other upcoming concerts include Artikal Sound System with Trevor Young of SOJA on Tuesday, Aug. 16 ($5), and Iya Terra & Mike Love on Sunday, Aug. 21 (also $5).

In Dewey Beach, the Bottle & Cork nightclub will feature country duo Maddie & Tae at 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 29 ($20). Looking ahead a week, the Cork stage will welcome Magical Mystery Doors at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5 ($10). The tribute act will pay homage to the classic rock of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Doors.

The Cork’s nearby sister business, the Rusty Rudder, continues to present its house band Love Seed Mama Jump outside on the deck for free each Thursday. However, the group will also host its 31st anniversary party Saturday, July 30. The $30 tickets include an hour of open bar and food from 8-9 p.m.

In downtown Rehoboth Beach, the Dogfish Head brewpub has a free concert set for 10 p.m. Friday, July 29. The indie-rock double bill will pair two Canadian acts: Kiwi Jr. and Weird Nightmare. That same day will find Dogfish releasing a limited-edition beer named after Kiwi Jr., which will be on tap in the bar and available to go in cans.

Back in Ocean City, the organizers of the annual OC BikeFest event have announced that hard-rock group Chevelle will be the special guest at the Saturday, Sept. 17, headlining appearance by Godsmack ($85). KIX will kick off the festival with its annual free show Wednesday, Sept. 14, followed by the band Disturbed on Thursday, Sept. 15 ($75).

Single-day tickets have sold out for a Friday, Sept. 16, appearance by southern-rock hit makers The Zac Brown Band.
