How to Rock a Speedo: The Hot Dog Visual Guide
It’s been a little over a year since Hot Dog first arrived at El Cid in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. But Mario Diaz’s Sunday party has quickly established itself as the hottest queer happening in the City of Angels. Maybe the draw is the chatty outdoor patio. Maybe it’s the throbbing indoor dance floor. Above all, it’s the sexy go-go dancers, whose charisma and retro stylings always delight and surprise.
In this swimwear feature from Out's new Pride issue, these dancers — with the help of Hot Dog greeter and local drag legend Love Connie — show off their Andrew Christians and give advice on rocking pool party season (including what to bring to these gatherings). It’s just a small taste of Hot Dog, which Diaz — a veteran producer of the queer party scene — refers to as “gay church.” He’s proud to create “a safe space to get dolled up, to show off, to laugh and dance to some good music. And of course, get drunk and laid.”
“I’ve made it a sort of mission in my work to share the message that sex is good, normal, healthy, and should be fun and celebrated,” Diaz shares. “No matter how strange, seedy, or dirty it may seem, guess what?
