Rockdale County deputy arrested for assaulting family member, sheriff’s office says
Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett says no one is above the law, not even his own deputies.
Corporal Deanna Newman was arrested on Sunday and charged with simple assault - family violence.

She was released from the Rockdale County Jail later the same day on a $2,000 bond, according to jail records.
Jail records say the incident that led to her arrest happened on March 8. Deputies have not released details on what happened during that incident.

“I will be the first to investigate any employee of mine if a criminal or disciplinary offense is committed. The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office believes in being fair, firm, and consistent with all disciplinary actions,” Sheriff Levett said in a statement released to Channel 2 Action News.
The sheriff says his office is conducting an investigation and will release more details once it’s complete.
