Rocker Dave Grohl fires up the barbecue to help L.A. firefighters

Rocker Dave Grohl spent Monday night helping some firefighters who’ve been busy rescuing others from Southern California’s Woolsey fire.

Firefighters at Los Angeles County Fire Station No. 68 in Calabasas, Calif., happily posed for a picture with the Foo Fighters frontman, noting that he had brought along some supplies: his very own Backbeat Barbecue.

Grohl has long been a barbecue enthusiast, and he’s even been known to step behind the pit between performances at festivals he’s playing. He launched an Instagram account for his own brand of it in September.

“When Nirvana became popular, the first thing I did is I bought a beach house in North Carolina and spent years up there, and I just ate pulled pork like f***ing crazy from the time I was 22 to about 25 years old,” Grohl told Billboard in September 2018. When Grohl broke his leg a few years ago, it left him with plenty of time to experiment with what makes barbecue great. By now, he’s a pro, although it’s not clear exactly what he plans to do in the food business.

As wildfires continue to burn, many other celebrities — and non-celebrities alike — have been less fortunate. They’ve been evacuated from and even lost their homes. Forty-four people have lost their lives.

Officials have urged that the best way that people (who are not expert pit masters) can help is to donate money to a reputable charity.
