El Paso's Rocketbuster Handmade Custom Boots outfits Jane Fonda's feet in '80 for Brady'

You could say El Paso has a foot in the recently released "80 for Brady" movie, specifically Jane Fonda's.

The star wears a custom-designed pair of boots from Rocketbuster Handmade Custom Boots in the movie about four lifelong friends who travel to see then-New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady play in Super Bowl LI in 2017.

It's all in a day for the high-end custom boot-maker of over 30 years. Rocketbuster is known for outfitting many celebrities and politicians, including Ethan Hawke, Kendrick Lamar and Sylvester Stallone.

Owner Nevena Christi said they started working on Fonda's boots, which feature the Patriots logo, back in April as a request from Fonda's stylist, Allyson Fanger, who also dresses the star in "Grace and Frankie."

The only guidelines were "blingy and very visible."

"We talked on the phone, and I sketched it up. ... and then they were FedExing Jane's foot, which is very narrow. I just kept thinking that she's beautiful, not a spring chicken, and she's very thin. I asked after we made them if she wanted us to have one of the girls wear them ‒ do a bunch of squats and make sure they were pre-bent," she said.

"I always tell people to wear them twice and everything's cool, but she probably wouldn't have two days to wear them twice in the filming of a movie," she added.

Christi said an employee broke in the bright red and blue, size eight boots, and then they were shipped.

"It was a total hit. They called. She put them on and said she couldn't believe they felt so great. And we were really excited they were filming the movie."

After seeing publicity showing Fonda wearing the boots, Christi figured it was safe to share the news on the store's Instagram.

Christi said 2022 was a fun year for custom-made boots, and she looks forward to 2023. The company, at 115 Anthony St., makes about 300 pairs of boots a year, ranging from $1,500 to $15,000.

"Last year was tremendous for us with all the people, between Kendrick Lamar and Sylvester Stallone. It was a very star-studded year. I expect fun things for 2023," she said. "It feels good to know people appreciate the art of what we do."
