Rockets’ Jae’Sean Tate cleared from safety protocols after false positive
On Friday, Houston Rockets rookie Jae’Sean Tate said he has been cleared from the health and safety protocols after sitting on Wednesday versus the Philadelphia 76ers.
The absence by Tate was his first missed game of the season after testing positive for the coronavirus. However, Tate said he never experienced any symptoms and that the test result that prevented him from playing was a false positive.
“I guess I gave a false positive,” Tate said, via Ben DuBose of Rockets Wire. “The NBA protocol, there are certain things you have to do to be cleared. I had three negative tests back-to-back so I’m good to go.”
The Rockets had just seven players available to play on Wednesday due to a length injury report. The loss of Tate was especially difficult since he can play virtually every position on the court and help fill in for those players out of action.
Tate was the last Rockets player to appear in every game prior to Wednesday.
The undrafted product from Ohio State has put forth a strong rookie campaign, averaging 11.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He currently ranks eighth in scoring, fourth in rebounding and third in steals among all rookies.
