Rockford area man killed in crash on I-39 earlier this week
Illinois State Police released information Wednesday about a fatal crash on Interstate 90 in Winnebago County that happened Monday morning.
Police said a vehicle traveling northbound on I-39 just before the Alpine Road exit when the vehicle left the roadway, entered the southbound lanes of traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle.
Debris from the crash hit another vehicle in the southbound lane, police said.
The drivers of the vehicles involved in the head-on collision were taken to the hospital where the driver of the first vehicle, later identified as John H. Danuk, 25, of Davis Junction, Illinois, was pronounced dead.
Police did not provide a status of the driver in the second vehicle.
The driver of the third vehicle was not hurt, police said, but was issued a citation for operating a commercial motor vehicle without proper classification
The crash is still being investigated.
