Food for those in need

City First Church of Rockford is inviting anyone in need to a drive-thru food distribution service at 10 a.m. Tuesday until supplies last at the church.

Guests are asked to use the main auditorium parking lot, 5950 Spring Creek Road. The drive-thru will be contactless. Recipients are asked to stay in their vehicles and allow volunteers to place donations into their trunks.

This will be City First's 35th community food distribution since COVID-19.

City First expects to serve at least 700 families Tuesday. Semitrailers filled with hundreds of pounds of dairy, protein and produce will be on hand through the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Celebrate with GRIAA

The Greater Rockford Italian American Association will host its annual Hall of Fame and special recognition dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Venetian Club. Tickets are $45. For more visit griaa.org or call 815-871-8319.

The Rev. James Ciamataro and Frank Valentine will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Bove’s Auto and Truck Repair will receive special recognition for business, and Dan Appino will receive special recognition for sports.

Volunteers sought

Volunteers are needed to assist with an electronics drive at Illinois Bank & Trust on Riverside and Perryville from 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Volunteers will accept donated electronics for recycling and place them on a pallet for shrink wrapping when the pallet is full. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful at 779-210-8656.

Free flu shots

The Boone County Health Department, the Salvation Army, Rockford University Department of Nursing and UW Health Belvidere Hospital have teamed up to provide free flu shots from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Salvation Army, 422 S. Main St., in Belvidere.

Any adult between the ages of 18 and 64 is welcome if they have no health insurance, are under insured, are unemployed or otherwise cannot afford a flu shot. No proof of identification is needed.

Supplies are limited. Medicare or Medicaid cards are not accepted.
