Chicago-Rockford passenger rail meeting

The public is invited to a meet Tuesday night to discuss the recently proposed Chicago-Rockford passenger rail service.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will host an open-house style meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St., in Rockford.

Tentatively scheduled to begin in 2027, the new service will connect Chicago and Rockford, with anticipated stops in Elgin, Huntley and Belvidere, according to a news release from the state.

Travel time between Chicago and Rockford is anticipated to be slightly less than two hours, with two round trips a day. Boarding locations in Chicago and Rockford, as well as a fare structure and schedule, are still to be determined.

Climate forum

Rockford's Region 1 Planning Council will hold a regular meeting of its Climate Resiliency Forum Tuesday at 4 p.m. at 127 N. Wyman St., Ste 100, in Rockford.

According to the agenda, attendees will discuss watershed education and outreach along with a SWOT analysis on water.

Investing in Rockford talent

Rockford University will host its first post-Business Summit networking event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rockford University.

The event will feature a panel of local business executives who will share insights and expertise on various topics related to talent development, employee retention, upskilling and internship programs. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage in open discussions, ask questions and gain valuable perspectives.
