Rockford man charged with attempted murder following shooting

A Rockford man has been charged with attempted murder after a shooting earlier this month.

Joe Williams, 59, was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Police said the charges stem from a shooting on May 2. Police said Williams shot a woman who was sitting inside of her vehicle outside her home.

The woman was shot in the neck and taken to the hospital, police said. The woman's condition is not known at this time.

Williams was arrested on Thursday. A search Williams' residence led to officers finding two rifles and two handguns, according to police.

Williams is being held in the Winnebago County jail.
