Rockford man sentenced to more than 100 years for 2018 murder

A Rockford man was sentenced to 102 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on first-degree murder charges.

Marquell Longs, 31, was found guilty of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon charges last year.

Longs shot two people at the Citgo gas station in the 4300 block of Auburn Street Nov. 11, 2018.

Police arrived and found Jennifer Jones unconscious in the parking lot. Jones was taken to the hospital where she died from a gunshot wound to her chest. A second victim, Tommy Nabors, was treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

Police were able to identify Longs as a suspect through surveillance video, according to the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office.
