Rockford reverses course on singer rejected for entertainment board over 'experience'

Rockford City Council on Monday reversed course on its decision to reject a local realtor with a background in the entertainment industry and approved her to fill a vacancy on the Rockford Area Venues & Entertainment Authority Board.

Aldermen who were apparently unaware of her background as a recording artist and entertainer, had previously rejected Nastasia "Staci" Brown citing a lack of experience for the RAVE Authority Board.

A resume aldermen were given detailed her professional work in the real estate industry including ownership of the Harmony Home Group and with Keller Williams Signature Realty in Loves Park, but did not mention her background as singer. Brown has recorded singles including the gospel song "Healer" in 2020, has performed at the Soar Awards and has national contacts in the entertainment industry.

Saying that the city would be lucky to have her on the RAVE Authority Board, Mayor Tom McNamara appointed Brown for a second time. This time McNamara said he made sure City Council was aware of her credentials.

Brown was approved for the post on a vote of 10-3 with Ald. Tim Durkee, R-1, Chad Tuneberg, R-3, and Frank Beach, R-10, dissenting.

The RAVE Authority Board is the body that oversees the BMO Center, the Coronado Performing Arts Center and Davis Park.
