Woman shot and killed outside Rockford store identified, police search for suspect

The Winnebago County Coroner's office has released the name of the 63-year-old woman who was fatally shot outside Pinnon Meats in Rockford Wednesday.

The coroner identified the woman as Peggy Anderson, of Rockford. The coroner's office said Anderson died from a gunshot wound.

Anderson was an employee at Pinnon's, according to the business.

"We are saddened to share with you that due to the horrific events that took place on our property yesterday, we lost one of our family members, co-workers and a loves and trusted friend," the business said in a Facebook post.

"Here at Pinnon's, we are all family. This is an unimaginable event and we appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from the community," the business continued.

Rockford police said Anderson was walking down the stairs at the building, 2324 N. Court St., when the suspect robbed Anderson of her belongings.
