Rockland issues warning after sewer discharges at water treatment plant

ROCKLAND − The Rockland Sewer Commission issued a public advisory on Thursday warning residents to avoid French's Stream after a sewer discharge at the Rockland Water Treatment plant at 9 a.m. The overflow contained untreated or partially treated sewage and waste, the advisory said.

The advisory, issued Jan. 26, notes "increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants," and advises people to avoid French's Stream for 48 hours after the overflow ends, as it was expected to Friday, Jan. 27, commission Chairman Charles Heshion wrote in the advisory.
