Rockton library drag queen event to be held virtually. Here's why

What was supposed to be an in-person Drag Queen Q&A event this month at Rockton's Talcott Free Library will now be held virtually.

The library posted the following on its website:

"Safety of everyone is our first priority. After talking with the police/fire departments this week in multiple discussions of the huge number of people on both sides planning to attend, we have determined an in-person event will not be safe for our patrons or presenter at this time.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to turn this into a live virtual event! Due to the great interest in attending- in person we would have had to turn people away. This way, everyone who wants to will be able to log in and attend safely."

The notice went on to say more information such as date, time, registration and conduct rules for the event will be posted next week.

Last week, hundreds of people crowded into a library board meeting and protested on the lawn outside, speaking out for and against the LGBTQIA+ event. The board voted 4-2 to proceed with the event.
