Here are the top five stories today in Boulder:

  1. Can Rocky Flats, the former nuclear weapons plant be a good neighbor? Unlike the factory fires at Rocky Flats decades ago, wildfires would pose no danger of plutonium spread. Many would rather not see the area open to the public at all. (Westword)

  2. Water supplies almost ran dry as firefighters battled Marshall Fire flames. The water treatment plant in Louisville was forced to release raw, untreated water to keep the fire hydrants from running dry. (9News)

  3. Boulder Legal Nonprofit Up For American Bar Association Award. Bridge to Justice, which provides legal services to low and moderate-income Coloradans has been nominated for the Brown Award for Legal Access. (Patch)

  4. 2021 was the most deadly year on Colorado's roads since 2002. Preliminary data from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) indicates that 672 people died on Colorado roads in 2021, the most since 2002. As final numbers come in, that number is expected to grow to over 700 fatalities. (CPR)

  5. Will Outdoor Retailer Expo stay in Colorado? Will COVID-19 cancel plans for an in-person Snow Show this January? As talk of remaining in-person grows, so does the conversation around Outdoor Retailer’s next home. The contract at the Colorado Convention Center is up following the June 2022 show, and Outdoor Retailer indicates that it is in search of its next home. (FN)
