Original story

A Rocky Mountain National Park visitor died Sunday after falling at a waterfall at the northeast corner of the park.

The 25-year-old male from Providence, Rhode Island, died after being pulled under water at West Creek Falls, according to a park news release. His body was recovered Sunday evening.

West Creek Falls is located about 5 miles north of Estes Park.

On Monday, the man's body was flown by Northern Colorado Interagency Helitak to a helispot in the Upper Beaver Meadows area of the park. It was then transferred to the Larimer County Coroner's Office, which will release the man's name and cause and manner of death at a later time.

Park spokesperson Kyle Patterson said it was the park's first fatality of the year.

In May 2022, a 21-year-old woman from Illinois died after falling into Adams Falls on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park.

The park warned caution should be used around its waterways because rivers, streams and waterfalls are running extremely cold and fast, and streams "can be deceivingly deep and swift."
