Rod Stewart has revealed he would ‘love’ to see a biopic of his life - like fellow rocker and friend Elton John.
The past year has seen music biopics becoming hugely popular, with John’s Rocketman, which was released in cinemas last week, and Bohemian Rhapsody about Queen icon Freddie Mercury, which was released last year.
Now the Do Ya Think I’m Sexy singer thinks it’s his turn. Speaking at London nightclub Tramp’s 50th anniversary party, he said: “I haven’t seen the Elton John biopic, but I’d love one of me.”
The 74-year-old also revealed the competitive edge to their friendship, which has been ongoing since the 1970s, is still very much alive.
Stewart said of his relationship with John: “We have been in contact with each other a lot lately, bitching everybody out. We are still competitive.
“We text back and forth - how many albums I’ve sold and how many he’s sold. I’m winning.”
But it isn’t just album sales he is competitive about. He also couldn’t help poke fun at his rival’s hairline and supposed use of a hairpiece.
On his own hair, still looking in good shape despite the star being in his mid seventies, the former Faces frontman said; “I’ve still got it, unlike a couple of my mates in the music business. I am not going to mention any names.”
Asked about Elton’s hair, he said: “It’s sewn on.”
He also revealed he bought his the Candle in the Wind singer a full-size sit-under hairdryer for his 50th birthday in 1997, with a note saying: “The only thing I forgot to buy was the hair to go with it.”
With friends like that, who needs enemies?
So, with a Rod Stewart biopic potentially in the pipeline, who is your money on to play the famously gravel-voiced singer?
