Featured programs

Summer Movie – 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Rodman Public Library’s Summer Movie Series continues with a 2000 American biographical disaster drama film starring Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney. Due to licensing agreements, the library cannot disclose the tile of the film in the media. The film is based on a 1997 non-fiction book of the same title and tells the story of a commercial fishing vessel that was lost at sea with all hands after being caught in a 1991 storm. The movie is free, and the library will provide fresh popcorn made in its new popper. Children younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Teen Water Obstacle Course – 3 p.m. July 21. An outside water obstacle course will be available for ages 12-18 to try out their skills and compare their times against their friends. Ongoing programs

Knit Wits – 10 a.m. Monday. KnitWits, a circle for needleworkers of all types and skill levels, meets the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Main Library. The group is always seeking new members and donations of yarn. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 107.

Play Group – 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Recommended for ages birth through 5 years, Play Group gives parents and caregivers as well as their infants and toddlers the opportunity to socialize. Board books and toys will be available for the children to play with while coffee and tea will be offered to the adults. A librarian will be in attendance at all times, but a parent or caregiver must be present with his or her child. No registration is necessary. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Storytime at The Branch – 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Children ages 3 and older can explore a different aquatic creature each week in conjunction with RPL’s Oceans of Possibilities summer reading program. Two sessions are identical. The 45-minute sessions include songs, stories and a different activity each week. Each storytime concludes with a short video highlighting the sea creature of the day. Kids are encouraged to bring a beach towel to sit on. Featured on July 13 is the narwhal with a narwhal wheel craft as the special activity. No registration is required. Teen Writing Club – 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Teens with an interest in writing are encouraged to join Rodman Public Library for the Teen Writing Club that meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays at the Main Library. Have fun meeting with your fellow teen writers to exchange ideas, hone your skills and share your work, if desired. No registration is required. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 217.

Book Fest – 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Intended for kids of all ages, program is a half hour of fun. On Thursday, the Greater Cleveland Aquarium will provide a virtual program. No registration is required. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Teen Gaming – 3 p.m. Thursday. Teens ages 12-18 are invited every other Thursday to play their favorite video games on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Playstation 3 & 4, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo WiiU. Games with ratings from “E” for Everyone, up to “T” for Teen level will be offered. No registration is required for these free events. Tech Time Thursday – 11 a.m. Thursdays. A Rodman librarian is available for an hour to answer basic questions about your computer or electronic devices, such as cellphones, laptops and tablets. No registration required. For information, call the Main Library at 330-821-2665, ext. 216.

Bookmobile at Alliance Farmers’ Market – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 16. In addition to providing its usual service as a traveling 34-foot library, the RPL Bookmobile will provide take-and-make craft projects, while supplies last, for children during its stop at Alliance Farmers’ Market. Books and Coffee – 6:30 p.m. Monday at The Branch. Club meets every second Monday of the month at the Rodman Branch Library. Led by Charlene Duro, the selected title will be “Travels with George: In Search of Washington and His Legacy,” by Nathaniel Philbrink. For more information, call 330-821-1313.

True Crime Junkies – 6:30 p.m. July 19. Led by reference librarian Ashley Mock, the club meets every third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The selection is “Black Dahlia, Red Rose: The Crime, Corruption, and Cover-Up of America’s Greatest Unsolved Murder,” by Piu Marie Eatwell. Kids Book Club – 4:15 p.m. July 20. Ages 8-12 are invited to join the third Wednesday of each month. “The Terrible Two,” by Mac Barnett and Jory John is the selected title for July.
