Featured programs

Summer Movie – 5:30 p.m. Monday. June selection of RPL’s Summer Movie Series will be screened. Movie is a 2003 computer-animated adventure film released by Walt Disney Pictures that tells the story of an overprotective clownfish who searches for his missing son with the help of a regal blue tang. Children younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Due to licensing agreements, Rodman Public Library cannot reveal the titles of the movies. Call 330-821-2665, ext. 107, for information.

Maker Monday – 7 p.m. June 13. Crafters will decorate a summer tote bag inside Rodman Auditorium. All materials are provided, thanks to Friends of Rodman Library, but space is limited and registration is required at rodmanlibrary.evanced.info/signup or by calling 330-821-2665, ext. 107.

Summer Art Experience – Virtual program begins June 13. Several spots are still open for the virtual Summer Art Experience for children. For the virtual experience, children will be able to view via YouTube four art lessons taught by local art instructors beginning on June 13. Art supplies will be provided free of charge while supplies last and can be picked up beginning that day. New programs

Play Group – 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Recommended for children ages birth to age 5. The program gives parents and caregivers, along with their infants and toddlers, the opportunity to socialize. Board books and toys will be available for the children to play, while coffee and tea will be offered to the adults. A librarian will be in attendance at all times, but a parent or caregiver must be present with his or her child. No registration is necessary. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Storytime at The Branch – 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Children ages 3 and older explore a different aquatic creature each week in conjunction with RPL’s Oceans of Possibilities summer reading program. The 45-minute sessions at the RPL Branch include songs, stories and a different activity each week. Each storytime will conclude with a short video highlighting the sea animal of the day. Children are encouraged to bring a beach towel to sit on. On June 8, “Dive Into Reading!” lets children get their feet wet by talking about the ocean and read about a few fish. The activity will be a science experiment that will explore how fish breathe. No registration required. For more information, call 330-821-1313.

Book Fest – 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Intended for kids of all ages, Book Fest is a half hour of fun. Special guest on June 9 is Adam Zorn, program manager for the University of Mount Union’s Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center, who will present “Backyard Mammals.” He will have skulls and furs on hand as he discusses common mammals that kids may see around their own homes. He will also talk about some less common wildlife that occasionally passes through. No registration is required. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Book clubs

Books and Coffee – 6:30 p.m. June 13 at The Branch. Club meets every second Monday of the month at the Rodman Branch Library. Led by Charlene Duro, the selected title will be “People We Meet on Vacation,” by Emily Henry. For more information, call 330-821-1313.

True Crime Junkies – 6:30 p.m. June 14. The book discussion group led by reference librarian Ashley Mock meets the third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The June meeting will be held the second Tuesday, however, due to a scheduling conflict. The selection for June 14 is “The Killer Across the Table: Unlocking the Secrets of Serial Killers and Predators with the FBI’s Original Mindhunter,” by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. Kids Book Club – 4:15 p.m. June 15. Children ages 8-12 can join the third Wednesday of each month. “Pi in the Sky,” by Wendy Mass is the selected title for June. Led by Stacy Digianantonio, Kids Book Club meetings include a brief discussion of the book, a fun activity and a snack. Teen Book Club – 4 p.m. June 20. Teen Book Club meets the third Monday of each month at 4 p.m. in the conference room at the Main Library. Led by Jaime Gross, the June 20 title is “Where There’s a Whisk,” by Sarah J. Schmitt. For more information, call 330-821-2665 ext. 217.

RPL Evening Book Club – 6 p.m. June 27. The RPL Evening Book Club meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month in the Main Library. The June selection is “Ordinary Grace,” by William Kent Kruger. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 107.

Ongoing programming

Teen Writing Club – 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Teens with an interest in writing are encouraged to join the club on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. at the Main Library. Meet with your fellow teen writers to exchange ideas, hone your skills and share your work, if desired. No registration is required. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 217.

Tech Time Thursday – 11 a.m. Thursdays. Every week, Rodman Public Library schedules a librarian to answer basic questions about your computer or electronic devices, such as cellphones, laptops and tablets. No registration required.
