Rodman Public Library has announced its Summer Reading Program will kick off May 30 and will run through July 29.

The program will feature three divisions – children up to age 12; ages 12 to 18; and those 19 and older. Patrons can sign up in person at the Main Library; Branch Library; Bookmobile; rodmanlibrary.beanstack.org; or the Beanstack app.

Prizes will be awarded throughout the two months, and patrons will earn entries into grand prize drawings that will be held at the program’s conclusion. Patrons are expected to pick up their prizes within a week, or make arrangements to do so.

Rodman Public Library plans a kickoff mini carnival in the main library’s auditorium and gallery from 1 to 5 p.m. June 1. The event will include midway games such as Plinko, Basketball Pop-a-Shot, ring toss, golf, and a Kiddie Hi-Striker. Fresh popcorn and cotton candy will be provided.

The branch also plans a kickoff event from 1 to 4 p.m. June 8. The event will include a scavenger hunt, photo booth, face painting, craft table, game and snack to take home.

Here’s an overview of the 2023 summer reading program:

Children

Participants will receive a reading log and Bingo board. With every 15 minutes of reading completed, kids will color in a book on the log. After coloring in 24 books, which equals six hours of reading, participants can turn in the log at the library to receive an entry into a raffle for one of several prizes, including a Nintendo Switch Lite, Amazon Fire tablet, LEGO Super Mario playset, Kavi American Girl Doll of the Year, one of two $50 Amazon gift cards or one of two $50 Walmart gift cards.

Children also will receive a certificate of completion, book and coupons from area restaurants.

Young readers can earn additional tickets for every five additional hours of reading.

Another raffle entry can be earned by completing Bingo on the card in the reading log.

Teens

Teens can earn entries into the grand prize drawings for one of four prizes – Nintendo Switch Lite; one of two $50 Amazon gift cards; or gift cards to area restaurants.

Teens who complete 20 hours of reading will earn a book, a summer reading prize and grand prize entry. For each additional five hours, teens will earn an extra raffle ticket.

Weekly challenges can earn another entry each week.

Adults

For adults signing up in person, any checkout transaction qualifies for a ticket to be entered into a weekly drawing for a canvas library bag filled with goodies, including a $25 Amazon gift card. Patrons may have multiple checkouts per day.

For those participating online, each book read qualifies for one ticket to be entered into a weekly drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card. The online version will also have its own grand prize drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card.
