Rodman Public Library will offer a quick lesson in flags just in time for Flag Day.

Ed Stockli of Deerfield American Legion Post 713 will share information during "Flags of the Americas" at 6:30 p.m. May 23 at Rodman Public Library.

Answers will be offered to an array of questions:

• What was the first flag to fly on the North American continent?

• What is the meaning of each fold of the United States flag?

• How many different flags have flown over California?

During the hour-long program, Stockli will display 20 different flags that have flown over North America and South America, dating from 500 BC to the present day.

With help from members of Boy Scout Troop 355 from Edinburg, Stockli will begin the evening by explaining the items on a POW-MIA table and what each symbolizes. He will follow it up by showing the proper way to fold a U.S. flag and explain what each of the folds symbolizes.

He then will discuss each of the 20 historic flags prior to a question-and-answer session.

Memorial Day falls May 30 in 2022, and Flag Day is June 1

Registration is required for the event at rodmanlibrary.evanced.info/signup or by calling 330-821-2665, ext. 107.
