Featured programs

Know Your Food – 6:30 p.m. Monday. Rodman Public Library invites patrons to get to know their food a little better from the inside out when Holly Bandy of the Ohio State University Extension’s College of Food, Agriculture and Environmental Science, presents “Know Your Food.” Key points of the presentation will include health benefits, servings, and preparation and storage of food. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sample a healthy treat made from in-season produce following a cooking demonstration. The event is free, but space is limited. Pumpkin Painting at The Branch – 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 8. Area children are invited to a family event at the Rodman Branch. Children can pick out a pumpkin and paint it during the make-and-take activity. The library will provide the pumpkins, paint and other decorations for the kids to use, thanks to Friends of Rodman Public Library. For more information, call 330-821-1313.

Teen D&D – 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.Oct. 10. Ages12-18 can sign up at Rodman Public Library to participate in an ongoing series of “one-shot” “Dungeons and  Dragons” missions every month based on the “Candlekeep Mysteries” sourcebook. Players do not have to play consistently each month to participate. Space will be limited each month to six players, and a DnD Beyond account and email address is required to play. Ongoing programs

Wee Read – 6:30 p.m. Mondays and 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Rodman Public Library plans the fall program from Sept. 12 to Nov. 9. Children ages birth to age 2 and their parents or caregivers are invited to attend. Wee Read includes stories, fingerplays, music and movement. No registration is required. Family Fun Night – 6:30 p.m.Tuesdays from Sept. 13 to Nov. 8. Parents or caregivers and their children ages 3 to 12 are invited to participate in an entertaining and educational evening in Rodman Main Children’s Department as part of Family Fun Night. There will be stories before participants break into small groups to visit various stations where they will play games, complete challenges and create crafts that will provide fun for all ages. Kids Gaming – 4 to 5 p.m.Wednesday. Program is the first Wednesday of each month at Rodman Public Library’s Auditorium. Children ages 8-12 are treated to open play of video games, Minecraft, etc. on devices provided by the library. No registration is required for free monthly gaming events. Storytime –10:30 a.m.Thursdays; 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Children ages 3-5 and their parents or caregivers are invited to attend Storytime sessions at Rodman Public Library. Morning sessions will run Sept. 15 to Nov. 10; and evening sessions will run Sept. 13 to Nov. 8. Storytime sessions are intended to encourage lifelong readers through stories, music, movement and activities. For more information, contact the Children’s Department at 330-821-2665, ext. 223.

Tech Time Thursday – A Rodman Public Library librarian will be available for an hour at 11 a.m. Thursdays at the main library to offer Tech Time Thursday. During that hour, the staff member can answer basic questions about your computer or electronic devices, such as cellphones, laptops and tablets. No registration required. Teen Gaming – 3 to 5 p.m.Thursday. Ages 12-18 are invited to Rodman Public Library every other Thursday to play their favorite video games on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Playstation 3 & 4, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo WiiU. Games with ratings from “E” for Everyone, up to “T” for Teen level will be offered. No registration is required for these free gaming events. Book clubs

Books and Coffee – 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at The Branch. Club meets every second Monday of the month. Led by Charlene Duro, the selected title for October will be “The Woman They Could Not Silence: One Woman, Her Incredible Fight for Freedom, and the Men Who Tried to Make Her Disappear,” by Kate Moore. Teen Book Club 4 p.m. Oct. 17. The Teen Book Club meets on the third Monday of each month in the conference room at the Main Library. Led by Jaime Gross, selected title for October is City of Ghosts,”by Victoria Schwab. For more information, call 330-821-2665, ext. 217.

True Crime Junkies – 6:30 p.m.Oct. 18. Discussion group led by reference librarian Ashley Mock meets the third Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. The October selection is “Chase Darkness With Me: How One True-Crime Writer Started Solving Murders,” by Billy Jensen. Kids Book Club – 4:15 p.m.Oct. 19. RPL invites those ages 8-12 to join the third Wednesday of each month. “Upside Down Magic,” by Sarah Mlynowski, Lauren Myracle and Emily Jenkins is the selected title for October. Led by Stacy Digianantonio, meetings include a brief discussion of the book, a fun activity and a snack.
