Roe and Cheffy to join Barnesville Hall of Fame

The Barnesville Area Education Foundation (BAEF) provides funds for local education systems and students that might not otherwise be available through public funding. Each year the foundation evaluates and votes on nominations for the BAEF Hall of Fame.

This year's inductees are Dr. John P. Roe, who graduated in 1968, and Edward K. Cheffy, a 1971 graduate of Barnesville High School.

As a student at Barnesville High School, Roe was on the Student Council, was a class officer, a member of the Key Club, Shamrock staff, Senrab staff, and Inter-class play. He was appointed to the US Air Force Academy in 1968 and graduated in 1972 as a distinguished graduate.

Roe is the son of the late John Howard Roe and Shirley Ann Roe.

At BHS, Ed Cheffy was inducted into the National Honor Society, and was the salutatorian of his class. He served as president of the Student Council, president of the Key Club, and a class officer, and he lettered in two sports.

Upon graduation, he attended Harvard University and graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in history and literature. He enrolled at The Ohio State University College of Law and obtained a juris doctorate with honors, in 1978.

He returned to Belmont County to practice law with the firm of Kinder, Kinder and Hanlon in 1978, and he subsequently joined Frost & Jacobs in Naples, Florida in 1984. In 1993, he and John Passidomo founded the law firm of Cheffy Passidomo, P.A., which is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary with fourteen lawyers and thirty-five employees.

Hw is board certified as a civil trial lawyer and business litigation aawyer, and he is a fellow in The American College of Trial Lawyers.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held during the alumni banquet on July 8 in the cafeteria area on the high school campus.
