Roger Kramer benefit dinner approaches
Jan. 17—GREENSBURG — The public is invited to a benefit dinner for the Roger Kramer family from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Greensburg.
Admission is free, but a freewill donation is encouraged. Attendees can look forward to a meal of pulled pork, hot dogs, baked beans, scalloped potatoes, chips and desserts, a silent auction of gift baskets donated by many local businesses and private citizens, and a 50/50 raffle.
The pulled pork will be from two donated hogs, and the smoked bacon from the hogs will be raffled off during the event.
A DJ will entertain and the Knights of Columbus bar staff will be serving.
In November 2023, Kramer was diagnosed with neuroendocrine carcinoma, a cancer of the endocrine system for which there is no cure. Surgery is not an option in its treatment, but chemotherapy is.
Roger's cancer started in his colon, spread to his liver and is now in his lymph nodes.
He will endure six cycles of chemotherapy entailing three days of infusions every 21 days.
Roger's treatments are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, which he must take off from his job as the superintendent for Decatur County Rural Water. The treatments exhaust him, but if he feels up to it he goes to work on Fridays.
His wife Jennifer takes those same days off work to take care of her husband.
He had a scan in January, and it was found that a cancer in a lymph node had grown. He will have another scan after his fourth chemo cycle the second week in February.
After the fourth cycle, they'll do a scan every month to monitor his progress, so his prognosis is unsure.
