Sep. 23—Although Roger McGuinn released a Christmas album last year, there hasn't been a lot of bustling professional activity for the ex-Byrds legend. And that's fine: We're in a plague and he's 79 years old.

McGuinn IS embarking on a tour, though, and the first date will be Saturday in Old Saybrook at The Kate. Not sure how many holiday tunes you'll hear — I assume stores are already putting up Santa hats and displaying boxes of candy canes, so why not? — but it's safe to say McGuinn's set will be otherwise tripartite.

He'll feature the Byrds hits, certainly, as well as some solo favorites, and expect a huge sampling from his "Folk Den Project," wherein he released over 100 renditions of cherished folk songs he found formative in his own life.

Roger McGuinn, 8 p.m. Sat. Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $55; thekate.org., (860) 510-0453.
