Roger Stone uses racial slur on live radio show with Black host
NEW YORK — Former GOP political operative Roger Stone seemingly referred to the Black host of a California radio show as a “Negro” Saturday night.
Stone, appearing on the “Mr. Mo’Kelly Show” on KFI AM 640 in Los Angeles, was arguing with host Morris W. O’Kelly about President Donald Trump’s decision to commute his federal conviction hours before he was supposed to report to prison for his 40-month sentence after being convicted for witness tampering and making false statements to Congress during the investigation into Russia’s influence in the 2016 election.
“It was a jury of my political opponents,” Stone said during the phone interview.
But O’Kelly argued that Stone’s friendship with the president gave him an unfair advantage.
“There are thousands of people treated unfairly daily,” O’Kelly said. “Hell, your number just happened to come up in the lottery. I’m guessing it was more than just luck, Roger, right?”
Stone went silent, then, in a muffled voice, said, “I don’t really feel like arguing with this Negro.”
It’s unclear if he was speaking to O’Kelly or someone else.
Stone denied using the slur and told O’Kelly he was “out of your mind” after he questioned the former Trump campaign adviser.
“He didn’t see me as a journalist, not as a professional, not a radio host…but a ‘Negro’ first and foremost,” O’Kelly wrote in a blog post after the show. “Thirty years as an entertainment professional, twenty of them in radio. ‘Negro’ was the first pejorative uttered. The low-calorie version of the N-Word.”
The radio host also tweeted “I’m nobody’s NEGRO” later that night.
On Sunday, Stone denied using the slur and claimed O’Kelly’s engineer was to blame.
“His studio engineer can very clearly be heard using the epithet after he cut my sound feed three times,” Stone told the New York Daily News in an email. “Why is it that everyone on the left must label anyone who disagrees with them as ‘a racist?’ … I despise racism!”
O’Kelly did not immediately return a request for comment.
