Rogers High School Class of 2023 Top 10 students

The following students were honored as the top 10 students in the Rogers High School Class of 2023.

Grace Williams

Grace ranks 10th in her Class of 2023. Grace is a member of the National Honors Society and the Rhode Island Honors Society. She participates in the Rogers High School band where she plays the tenor saxophone. She is also a member of the RHS/MHS theater show where she performed in the play “You Can’t Take it With You.” Grace also practices jiu-jitsu and aspires to become a food scientist. Grace will attend Johnson and Wales University to study culinary science.

Julia Feury

Julia Feury is ranked ninth in her class. Ms. Feury is a member of the National Honors Society, Rhode Island Basket Weaving Association, as well as the Rogers High School Green Team, Key Club, and Student Integrity Board. Julia tutored her classmates in AP Calculus and AP Biology. Over the years, she has participated in Volleyball, Cross Country and Track. In her free time, Julia enjoys going to Rejects Beach, reading, hiking, and deep sea diving. Julia completed three years of the AOIT program at Rogers and is Microsoft IC3 Certified and Web Development Level 2 Certified. Julia was awarded the Rochester Institute of Technology Innovation and Creativity Award. Julia with a 4.2272 GPA will be attending the University of Miami in the fall to study Biology on a pre-medical track.

Camilla May

Camillia ranks eighth in her Class of 2023. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. Camillia is a skilled member of the volleyball team, serving as captain her senior year. She also participated in indoor and outdoor track and field. Camillia served as class secretary her junior year and participated in the Key Club her junior and senior year, as well as, class treasurer in the 2023 school year. She served the Green Team faithfully and was a member of the student council. Camilla has committed to the University of Georgia where she will major in nursing and health sciences.

Maeve Crowley

Ranking seventh in the class is Maeve Crowley. Maeve is a motivated, passionate, and hardworking young woman. She has taken our most demanding course of study while also achieving excellence in extracurricular activities. Maeve has received many academic awards and honors including the Junior Scholar English Award, the State of Rhode Island General Treasurer Award, and was inducted into the French Honors Society in 2022. As a member of the National Honor Society, Maeve received the Light of Character Award for her noticeable qualities of leadership and dedication. Athletically, Maeve has been a three-sport athlete and served as captain of the soccer, basketball, and lacrosse teams. As an All-State basketball player and 1,000-point scorer, Maeve was recently named the Rhode Island Interscholastic League 2023 Female Student-Athlete of the Year for her academic and athletic achievements. Maeve is an involved member of the Prom Committee, the Environmental Club, the French Club, Student Government, and is a board member of the Key Club. This accomplished young woman is graduating with a 4.27 GPA and will be attending North Carolina State University to study International Business.

Matthew T. Mullins

Matthew ranks sixth in his Class of 2023. Matthew is a member of the National Honor Society, the Rhode Island Honor Society and the French Honor Society. Matthew won first place in the Sons of American Revolution state essay competition. He has been awarded the Sons of American Leadership Excellence Award, Association of the United States Army Leadership Award, Air National Guard Excellence Award, and the Junior Scholar English Award. He is a dedicated member of the swim, football, sailing, and outdoor track and field, serving as captain for the swim, sailing and football teams his senior year. He served as senior class treasure and is faithful member of the Boys Scouts of America.

Matthew has been accepted to the prestigious United States Naval Academy embarking on a career in the United States Navy.

John Sigler

John ranks fifth in his Class of 2023. He is a member of the National Honors Society and the Rhode Island Honor Society. He participated in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field and band. He is a faithful member of the Boys Scouts of America and the Aquidence Island robotics team. John was selected and awarded the prestigious Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship. The NROTC scholarship is a multi year program, worth $200,000, that runs concurrently with a college’s regular course of study. In addition to John’s regular course of study, he will attend classes in naval science, participate in drills and physical training and learn leadership skills and the high ideals of a military officer.

John has committed to the Marine Maritime Academy to study Marine Systems Engineering.

Delaney Gouveia

The Number four academic student from the class of 2023 is Delaney Gouveia. Delaney has a passion for learning, and has taken rigorous coursework during all four years of study. She has a love for the environment, and restarted the Rogers High School Green Team during her junior year, acting as President for the next two years. She formed a partnership with Clean Ocean Access, and through their Flexible Cleanup Program, The Green Team has conducted a series of cleanups in public parks around Aquidneck Island. Delaney has also participated in the Diversity and Relevance Committee, the Rogers Theater Company, and the Newport Children’s Theater (in their winter, spring, and summer productions as well as the Teen Repertory Company). She is a member of the Rogers High School Chapter of the National Honors Society, receiving the Light of Service Award when she was inducted. She has also received The Junior Scholar English Award, Spanish Honors Society Award, received a Notable Mention in the 2022 Write RI competition for her entry “A Birthday Gift”, and earned 3rd Place in the 2021 Aquidneck Land Trust Art Contest. Delaney is graduating from Rogers with an overall GPA of 4.2861, and will be continuing her studies at Fordham University, where she will be double majoring in English and Environmental Studies on the Pre-Law Track.

Theodore Henson

Ranking third in the class, Theodore Henson is a passionate and motivated student. From Tiverton, he has come to Rogers to participate in the Newport Area Career and Technical Center (NACTC). Through the Academy of Information Technology and P-TECH programs he has enriched the typical, rigorous curriculum of AP classes: he has competed in the SkillsUSA RI competition for Computer Programming and won Gold; he has led his CyberPatriot team to place first in Rhode Island, and taught a cybersecurity summer camp for incoming NACTC students to learn about said competition. Through NACTC, he has also taken technical courses at CCRI. His interests in science and technology have led him to place as First Grant at the Rhode Island Science and Engineering Fair. But Theodore doesn’t like to only sit behind computers and books all day; he seeks to be an active community member, volunteering for his church’s Food Pantry and Bike Newport. He likes writing, music, and hiking. This summer he plans to summit the last of the 48 mountains over 4,000 feet in New Hampshire. As a guitarist, he plays in the Rogers Jazz Band, in his church’s community band, and teaches guitar lessons. Theodore, with a 4.3899 GPA, will be attending the University of Texas at Dallas on a full-ride scholarship as part of their National Merit Scholars Program, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Philosophy.

Patrick Bryan

This year's salutatorian is Patrick Bryan. Patrick is a dedicated bright young man who has taken our most rigorous classes at Rogers. Alongside his loaded schedule Patrick has been a three-season athlete during his tenure, participating in Varsity Football, Varsity Swim, and Varsity Lacrosse. During his spare time Patrick relaxes by tutoring his AP Calculus classmates and baking with his mother. Outside of school he has worked at a handful of places, such as the Newport Sweet Shoppe, SRBA, and the Clarke Cooke House. Being a prime example of leadership and service Patrick is a recipient of the Rhode Island Civil Service Award and VFW “Voice of Democracy” Scholarship. As a tenacious problem solver, Patrick is going to go into renewable energy technologies and dive headfirst into finding solutions to the climate crisis. Patrick is graduating with a 4.4100 and will be attending The Georgia Institute of Technology this fall to study Electrical Engineering.

Pauline Cooper

Pauline Cooper is the Valedictorian for the Class of 2023. Pauline is a passionate and creative individual. She has worked closely with community organization FabNewport in several programs over the school year including Young Philosophers and the Naturalist Survival Skills program. She was also an Intern in the Art, Hiking, and Restoration groups during FabNewport’s summer camp. Pauline has worked towards equity in schools in an educational equity working group as well as the Rogers Diversity and Relevance Committee. She has been active in Newport’s queer community through the RHS Gender and Sexuality Alliance, the L.E.A.D. group at the MLK center, and Queer Connections with Newport Pride. Pauline participated in Indoor and Outdoor track for several years, throwing weight, shot put, hammer, and discus.

Pauline has exhibited her interest in the environment through work with the RHS Green Team and volunteering at the Norman Bird Sanctuary. She has explored an interest in technology by joining the Academy of Information Technology program through NACTC, and in science through her many science classes and state Science Fairs where she presented. Pauline loves nature, and is interested in natural science as well as creative pursuits inspired by nature.

Graduating with a 4.4909 GPA, Pauline will attend Brown University to study Biology.
