Carlos Ruiz, 64, was found guilty and sentenced to 40 years for rape and 10 years for sexual assault.

According to an affidavit, Rogers police received a letter from an attorney in April 2021 saying a woman was suing Ruiz for rape and sexual assault that started when she was seven years old.

The victim said Ruiz sexually assaulted her from 2007 to 2012 and was sexually assaulted approximately 40 times between 2010 and 2012, according to the affidavit.

In July 2021, Rogers police spoke with Ruiz and said there were allegations made against him. Ruiz told police he was aware of the lawsuit but his attorney told him to not worry and that there was no criminal case, according to the document.

Ruiz denied sexually assaulting the victim and that she had made up the story about the incident.

Ruiz’s booking says he was arrested on January 11, 2023.

The sentencing order says Ruiz will have to register as a sex offender.
