Watchers of News 5 Cleveland will see two familiar faces in different roles in the New Year: Tiffany Tarpley and Damon Maloney.

Tiffany Tarpley, a former intern with the network, will return from her time as a show anchor at WTOL in Toledo to join the "Good Morning Cleveland" team, according to News 5, an Akron Beacon Journal news partner.

Tarpley will replace Danita Harris who recently announced her departure from the news network after nearly 25 years in front of the camera.

Also shifting positions is Maloney, the weekend morning anchor who will join the evening "News 5 at 5" program.

Who is Tiffany Tarpley?

Tarpley is a Lorain native who graduated from Bowling Green State University and interned at News 5.

With several regional Emmys under her belt, Tarpley joined the news industry in 2014 when she started as a reporter before moving on to host and anchor at WKYC.

In 2020, she accepted a morning show anchor position at WTOL in Toledo, according to News 5.

"Returning to Cleveland, especially in this role at News 5, is a dream come true,” Tarpley told News 5. “I was born and raised in Lorain. My parents and other family members still live in the city. Throughout my career, the goal has always been to become a weekday anchor and reporter in Cleveland. After years of prayer and hard work, I am grateful the time is finally here. I can’t wait to settle in again and give back to the community that has given so much to me."

She will join soon-to-be co-anchor Mike Brookbank and meteorologist Trent Magill on "Good Morning Cleveland." Her first day in front of the camera will be sometime after the holidays.

Who is Damon Maloney?

Maloney is a newer addition to the News 5 team having joined in June as the "Good Morning Cleveland's" weekend anchor.

The multi-regional Emmy Award winner worked in Cleveland since 2016 and has made a great addition to the team, said News Director Jodie Heisner.

"It has not taken Damon long to show us he is the right person for this job," Heisner said. "If you're the type of person who likes to see the hardworking good guy come out on top, that's exactly what is happening here."

Maloney will join co-anchor Katie Ussin and Chief Meteorologist Mark Johnson on the evening show at 5 p.m. that he has filled in for in the past.

"I’m looking forward to continuing the legacy of creating a broadcast that’s fresh, urgent, relevant and gets people talking about important things happening locally and beyond," Maloney said. "And I’ll still be in the community working to get answers and covering stories that matter most."
